Traditions Create Hope

According to Dr Curt Thompson, the author of Anatomy of the Soul, traditions in a family, create endorphins – or feel good hormones! The memories from familiar traditions, reinforce the endorphins which create hope.

Have you thought about how the traditions which God ordained for his people in the old testament involved the children, and created hope by regularly telling them about their past and their future destiny.

Even the littlest children were involved in sharing the stories of Gods mighty deeds, and in acting them out during festivals and holidays. They shared in the celebrations and their people’s amazing history.

God knows that children love the familiarity of traditions, and they love to know the big story that they are part of. As Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof said, pointing to the sky. Traditions tell us who He is and who we are.
